A custom board design for the board game Spirit Island inspired by California's coastline
My wife and I have Spirit Island literally hundreds of times. We still feel like every game provides a new experience. The only thing starting to feel stale is the thematic maps. So I designed a custom board inspired by California's geography, dividing the island along historical boundaries of Indigenous language groups. The layout stays true to Spirit Island's balance rules while adding fresh geography and thematic flavor.
